Cracked Phone Screen: Your Repair Options Explained
Not all cracked screens are the same repair. Understanding what actually broke — glass, display, or both — explains why quotes differ and why "it still works, I'll leave it" is usually a plan that costs more later.
The three layers that can break
- The glass — the outer layer you touch. A phone with shattered glass but a perfect picture may qualify for a glass-only refurbishment on some models.
- The display panel underneath — the OLED or LCD producing the image. Lines, black blotches, flickering or a dead image mean the panel itself is damaged and a full display assembly is the fix.
- The digitiser — the touch layer. Ghost touches or dead zones after a drop point here; on modern phones it's bonded into the display assembly.

Why small cracks never stay small
Glass under stress propagates. Heat cycles, pocket flex and the next micro-drop extend the crack a little each week, while the opening lets dust and moisture reach the display and, on many models, compromises water sealing.
