PRC Service Agreement & Legal Terms

Terms and Conditions

These terms govern all electronic repair services, micro-soldering, forensic data recovery, pre-owned device sales, factory warehouse dropshipping, in-person second-hand buybacks, and conversational AI support provided by PRC Store Pty Ltd (trading as Phone Repair Centre, ABN 20 609 861 038). By checking in a device, placing an online order, or accepting a quote, you agree to these terms.

1. Diagnostic Assessment and Bench Fees

Engineering time, electrical isolation, and transparent quoting

Modern electronics feature dense multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) requiring specialized multimeter measurements, thermal camera imaging, and schematic tracing to diagnose root-cause faults.

  • $0 with Completed Repair: Standard diagnostic assessment is completely free when you proceed with the recommended repair quote.
  • Fair Diagnostic Billing: Bench diagnosis is skilled technical labour. Where a bench fee applies, we will tell you the exact amount, including GST, before any chargeable work begins. The fee is $66 including GST for phones and tablets, and $88 including GST for gaming consoles, laptops, and complex board-level faults.
  • Inspection Scope: The diagnostic inspection fee covers bench labour, microscope analysis, power rail isolation, and consumable testing supplies when a device is determined to be physically unrepairable, or if the customer chooses not to proceed with the repair after written diagnosis.
  • Quote Validity: All written diagnostic quotes remain valid for 14 calendar days from the date of notification.

2. Data Recovery Services and Technical Scope

Temporary board revival, passcode requirements, and storage integrity

Data recovery from dead, crushed, or water-damaged logic boards requires surgical micro-soldering to restore essential power lines and CPU communication.

  • Temporary Power for Data Extraction: In severe motherboard damage or liquid trauma, our primary objective is to temporarily power the logic board and establish a secure connection to extract your files. The device itself is not restored for ongoing daily reliability, and repair warranties do not apply to unrepairable host chassis post-recovery.
  • Customer Passcode Obligation: Contemporary devices employ hardware-grade encryption (Apple Secure Enclave, Android File-Based Encryption). For data recovery jobs, the correct passcode, PIN, or pattern is required to decrypt the volume. If an incorrect passcode is supplied, data cannot be extracted. The agreed recovery fee remains payable once our workshop successfully restores board-level boot capability.
  • Storage Hardware Limitations: PRC cannot recover data if the physical flash memory chip (NAND or UFS) has suffered internal fracture, chemical delamination, or permanent silicon burnout.
  • Data Privacy and Purge Cycle: Recovered customer files are accessed strictly to verify file integrity, stored on an isolated encrypted bench drive, and permanently erased 7 calendar days after you confirm successful receipt.

3. 3-Month Repair Warranty and Australian Consumer Law

Clear voluntary warranty terms and statutory consumer guarantees

3-Month Store Warranty on Repairs: All repairs carried out by Phone Repair Centre (including screens, batteries, ports, cameras, motherboard repairs, microsoldering, and gaming consoles) and replacement parts fitted by our technicians are covered by a comprehensive 3-month store warranty from the date of collection or return delivery dispatch. If a covered part or our workmanship fails within that 3-month period, we will repair or replace it at no charge, or refund the repair price if we cannot rectify the defect.

  • How to Claim: Bring or post the device with your tax invoice or job sheet number to:
    PRC Store Pty Ltd
122 Queen St, St Marys NSW 2760
    Phone: (02) 8678 3298 | Email: service@prcrepair.com.au
You bear the initial cost of returning the device to our workshop. If the warranty claim is accepted, Phone Repair Centre bears the cost of the replacement part, bench labour, and return express postage.
  • What the Store Warranty Does Not Cover: Damage occurring after collection or delivery caused by accidental drop impact, cracked glass, internal OLED pixel bleeding, liquid ingress, extreme heat, frame bending, unauthorized third-party tampering, or faults unrelated to the specific part installed or service performed. Batteries are consumable components that gradually lose capacity with usage; normal chemical degradation over time is not a manufacturing defect.
Mandatory Australian Consumer Law Notice (Competition and Consumer Regulations 2010):

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: to cancel your service contract with us; and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

4. Data Backup Responsibility and Statutory Repair Notice

Statutory repair notification under section 103 of the Australian Consumer Law
Statutory Repair Notice (ACL Section 103, Regulation 91):

Repair of your device may result in the loss of data stored on it. Goods presented for repair may be replaced by refurbished goods of the same type rather than being repaired. Refurbished parts may be used to repair the goods.

  • Pre-Repair Backup: While screen replacements, camera modules, and battery installations do not modify storage partitions, underlying motherboard stress or unforeseen software panics can trigger recovery loops. Customers are strongly urged to create a full backup (via iCloud, Google One, or local computer) prior to bench service.
  • Pre-Existing Faults: Subject to consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law, Phone Repair Centre is not responsible for data loss caused by pre-existing hardware instability, corrupt NAND memory blocks, or prior firmware damage, provided our technicians have exercised due care and skill.

5. Liquid Damage Protocol and Corrosion Risks

Progressive oxidation, ultrasonic cleaning, and warranty scope

Liquid contact initiates immediate electrochemical oxidation. Even after external moisture dries, mineral deposits continue to corrode micro-traces and solder joints under surface-mount chips.

  • Progressive Latent Damage: Devices that undergo ultrasonic chemical deoxidation or micro-soldering may manifest secondary failures later due to microscopic corrosion in unexposed board layers.
  • Warranty Scope: While brand-new components fitted by PRC (such as a replacement battery or screen) remain covered by our 3-month store warranty, the warranty does not extend to subsequent corrosion failures on un-repaired sections of a liquid-damaged motherboard.

6. Prior Repair Attempts and Third-Party Tampering

Pre-existing physical damage, lifted traces, and disclosure rules

Devices previously disassembled by third-party repair shops or DIY attempts often carry hidden structural defects including stripped screw threads, torn flex cables, missing thermal shields, or thermal heat gun delamination.

  • Mandatory Disclosure: Customers must disclose prior disassembly or repair attempts upon check-in.
  • Disassembly Evidence: If previous damage (such as missing motherboard screws, stripped solder pads, or superglue residue) is uncovered during initial bench teardown, photographic evidence is logged immediately to our POS, and a revised assessment is provided before proceeding.

7. Mail-In Courier Intake and Transit Protocol

Packaging standards, Australia Post Express, and custodial tracking

For regional and interstate customers booking repairs via our online Mail-In Repair portal:

  • Inbound Transit: Customers are responsible for packaging hardware securely with multiple layers of bubble wrap in a rigid postal box. Phone Repair Centre is not responsible for transit damage incurred prior to delivery and signature receipt at our workshop.
  • Workshop Custody: Upon signed delivery at 122 Queen St, St Marys, our team assumes direct custody, logs unboxing photographic intake evidence, and issues an SMS/email tracking confirmation.
  • Tracked Return Dispatch: Completed mail-in repairs are returned using Australia Post Express with full tracking and signature on delivery across Australia.

8. Uncollected Goods and Statutory Disposal

Tiered notice periods and procedures under the Uncollected Goods Act 1995 (NSW)

When a repair or diagnostic assessment is complete, we notify the customer via SMS, phone, or email. If a device is not collected, we make further contact attempts. If the device remains uncollected, Phone Repair Centre administers disposal in strict accordance with the Uncollected Goods Act 1995 (NSW).

  • Written Notice of Intention to Dispose: We issue a formal written notice specifying the device, the outstanding repair or diagnostic charges, the collection location, and the date after which disposal may occur.
  • Statutory Notice Periods by Value:
    • Goods valued under $100: Minimum 14 days notice before disposal or responsible recycling.
    • Goods valued $100 to under $1,000: Minimum 28 days written notice before sale for fair value or recycling.
    • Goods valued $1,000 to $20,000: Minimum 3 months written notice before sale by public auction or private sale for fair market value.
    • Goods valued over $20,000: Disposal administered pursuant to an order of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
  • Mandatory Storage Data Wipe: Prior to any disposal, sale, or recycling, the internal storage of the device is securely sanitized or physically destroyed to defend customer privacy.
  • Surplus Proceeds: From any sale proceeds, Phone Repair Centre retains only actual unpaid repair charges, notified storage fees, and reasonable costs of disposal. Any surplus balance will be remitted to the customer or paid to Revenue NSW in accordance with the Unclaimed Money Act 1995.

9. Gaming Console Workshop Sanitization

PS5, Xbox, and electronic bio-hazard containment standards

Gaming consoles (including Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox) submitted with internal pest, bug, or cockroach infestations present severe electrical short hazards and workshop bio-hazard concerns.

  • Mandatory Decontamination: Infested units require chemical degreasing of heatsink fins, radial fan sterilization, and ultrasonic board restoration before micro-soldering or power supply repairs can safely take place.
  • Fixed Pricing: Workshop sanitization is priced at $66 including GST for standard bench sanitization and $99 including GST for deep ultrasonic restoration. Sanitization fees are quoted and approved before work begins; customers may decline and collect their console without proceeding.
